Submitting Books

I have many books on my to be read list and am active on NetGalley, but will happily review author’s books on request. Please understand that by giving me a copy of your book you are agreeing to receive a truthful review. A free copy does not influence my review in any way and I will not accept books that require only a positive review. Before sending me your book, please contact me by e-mail with a bit about yourself, your publisher if you have one, and a summary of the book. Please note the genres I am interested in below. I am more likely to accept a title that fits within my area of interest. If it does not fit perfectly, still submit. If the summary sounds good, I may accept. I reserve the right to refuse books based on whether they peak my interest and how many reviews I currently have on my plate. My reviews are generally published on:

  • Goodreads
  • Blog
  • Amazon

Platforms

I can read almost any e-book format, though I prefer not to read PDF files. I can also accept:

  • Kindle
  • Adobe Digital Editions
  • Nook

Print books and manuscripts are acceptable in any legible format. I will also accept professionally or semi-professionally narrated audio books.

Age Groups

  • Children’s (I have a toddler)
  • Middle Grade
  • Young Adult
  • New Adult
  • Adult (Nothing that Would Be Considered XXX)

Genres

Please note that I DO NOT read pure romance. I may occasionally read historical fiction with a strong romantic element, but the substance of the novel must go well beyond the protagonists’ relationship. I accept fiction for review only.

  • Science Fiction
  • Dystopian Science Fiction
  • Urban Fantasy
  • Light Fantasy
  • Science Fiction or Fantasy Humor
  • Archaeological Thrillers
  • Mysteries
  • Thrillers
  • Graphic Novels
  • Historical Fiction (WWII and Before)
  • Contemporary Women’s Issues and Women’s Rights

Additional Policies

  • I will abide by all publisher requirements as to when and where I can post a review.
  • If I accept compensation for a review I will note so above and below my post.
  • Turnaround time may vary depending on what is going on in my life and how many books I am committed to and how long the book is. Usually you can expect at least one to two weeks before a review is submitted.

I just completed a 237 page novel of Historical Fiction entitled, Failed Moments, and I would like for you to consider reviewing it. The novel poses the question:

What if the only way to survive your life is to go back in history and right the wrongs of two other men’s lives?

Failed Moments takes Patrick Walsh, a day trader by occupation and a daydreamer by disposition, from modern day New York City back to…

1790, French Caribbean: biracial plantation owner Patrice Beaumont is known as a “kinder” slave master, but his trusted friend reminds him that is no cause for pride. He claims to be committed to ending slavery, but his actions don’t back-up his words. Is being the “best of the worst” all he’s capable of?

1863, New York City: Giant Irish street fighter Patrick Allen is days away from battling it out with a similarly oversized Black fighter, when the Draft Riots ignite dangerous racial conflicts around the city. Never one to take sides outside the ring or join a fight he can’t win, he steers clear of the angry mobs. So when he stumbles on a lynching in progress, who can expect him to do anything more than look away?

Besides having a similar name and a proclivity to make tragic mistakes, what mystery ties these men together? Tackling race relations from a unique perspective, Failed Moments is a thought-provoking adventure through four centuries that questions the measure of a man not by his decision to do no harm, but his willingness to act on what is right. I hope you consider reviewing the book. It will be released in mid-March. Right now I have a pdf file, but I’ll have other formats within a week or so. Please contact me should you have an interest.

    Cordially,

    A. Robert Allen

Hello. This is in response to your very helpful review of The Martian. I wanted to offer you a review copy of my novel, The Mandate of Earth–a bestseller in Hard Sci-Fi, but there’s no way to contact you on here or on your AMZ profile.

      Good Afternoon,

I missed you comment because I am in the process of moving my blog over to its new domain http://www.allegoricalhipster.com after a hiatus from reviewing. I would be happy to read and review your book both on the blog and Amazon. You can send more information to allegoricalhipster@gmail.com! Thank you!
